Eat Local
Visited the Durham Farmers' Market this morning. There are quite a few organic farmers there, unlike the NC Farmers' Market in Raleigh. Strawberries had already sold out by the time we reached the front of the line! All the produce looked wonderful; lots of color!
FYI... the average U.S. meal travels 1200 miles to your kitchen. Buying locally grown food reduces the amount of fuel used to get the food to you, thereby reducing CO2 emissions & air pollution. Check www.usda.gov for a list of farmers' markets in your area.
Also, check www.MotherEarthNews.com for other great info......it's one of my favorite magazines.

Peace Mugs
Yesterday I stopped by the Pullen Arts Center to check on the show. It will be up for about another week, so you still have time to stop by to see it. These peace mugs are in the side wall show case, don't forget to look that direction.
Later in the day I went out to Cedar Creek Gallery. If you have never been there and live in the Raleigh/Durham area, it is worth the short drive out to Cedar Creek (near Creedmoor). The gallery, gardens, glass studio and pottery studios are amazing. We are really lucky to have a gallery like Cedar Creek near by. Click on the link to the right and check it out.

H-D Custom Journal
This is an example of a 'custom' journal that I made for a friend of mine. She wanted a Harley journal for her sister-in-law. Each of the folio covers had various designs & pictures relating to Harley's. The pages in each folio were plain, for personal entries. A few pages were orange, black, or off-white, most were white.

Rainy Tuesday
Breeze is stirring
Leaves are swirling
Sun is fading, dark clouds waiting
Trees are sighing
Birds are lying low in nests in wait of rain.
From 'Rain Song', by Lezlie Evans
This orange sherbet colored lily is on a stem that is almost 5 ft tall. It was visited by a yellow swallowtail in between the rain showers.

Sunday Morning
This is a late-blooming azalea. The bush is huge & the flowers are larger than the early blooming bushes in the yard. There are white to pink blooms on the bush. The bush is home to a variety of critters, including a possum.....that freaks me out a little, but in the spirit of St. Francis, I allow them to stay!

Saturday in the Garden
This a.m. we visited the gardens of John & Jeff at the Falls. The poppies were in bloom, & the greenhouse full of orchids was incredible! Mom would have loved it! We took many photos in hopes that Mom might use one or two for a painting. This photo of poppies reminds me of one of her watercolors from years ago.
